Today Wendy had her first medicated bath at the Great House.
This was not a normal bath. Wendy’s skin has been badly damaged by leishmaniasis, and the shampoo we used is part of her treatment. It has to stay on the skin for a while so it can work properly. This is one more step in helping her body recover from everything that was left untreated for far too long.
And Wendy was wonderful.
She stood there patiently while we washed her. Around her, the other dogs were curious, some of them desperate to get near the water, others making it clear that baths are not their idea of fun. But Wendy took it all in with that same gentle, happy character that has amazed us from the beginning.
After everything she has been through, she still wants to play.
She wants to be close. She wants to make friends. She wants to enjoy every second of this new life.
That is what moved us most today.
Wendy is still sick. Her treatment is not finished. Her skin still needs time, medication, monitoring and care. But today, at the Great House, we saw something very beautiful: Wendy is not broken.
She is alive. She is happy. She is healing.
