Today Mimi seems more awake.
You look at her and want to believe that, at last, she is starting to turn a corner. She is more present, more connected, she even seems to seek contact a little more. After everything she has been through, that would be huge news.
But the reality is still very serious.
Mimi remains in critical condition. Her albumin is very low, and that is causing fluid to leak into places where it should not be. She now also has fluid in her chest. That means that, on top of the severe anemia she is still fighting, she is having trouble breathing because where there should be air, fluid is beginning to collect.
That is where we are today.
On the outside, she seems a little better. Inside, her body is still fighting an enormous battle.
The surgery managed to control her bladder and stop the urinary disaster that was killing her. But now we are in another phase that is just as delicate: intensive care, strict fluid control, constant monitoring, bloodwork, respiratory support if needed, and very fine decisions to avoid losing the fragile balance Mimi is trying to build.
She is still fighting.
