Rufus is out of surgery. Now he needs to recover

Rufus arrived in our care with more than 100 shotgun pellets in his body and a badly damaged elbow. He could walk, but every step hurt.

Today, I want to show you what your help is making possible.

The operation was complex. The injury had been there for a long time, and the joint needed stabilising. The surgeons performed an arthrodesis: they secured his elbow with a plate and screws so the bones can fuse together, reducing the pain he had been living with.

The surgery went well. Rufus is now back at the Big House, where he continues to recover.

He is eating well, resting and receiving care. His walks are very short. In the video, you can follow him from the hospital back to the Big House and see him surrounded by affection.

The operation was a huge step. His recovery will take time and support.

He faces months of recovery, medication and veterinary follow-up. We need your help to cover his treatment and give him the care he needs throughout this time.
