Nano is a very old Yorkshire Terrier. A tiny, elderly, fragile dog who has come to us at a decisive moment.
Behind Nano there are two elderly people, good people, with serious health problems and a life that is becoming increasingly difficult. They are people who have helped before, who have been donors, who have always stood on the side of animals. Today, they are the ones asking us for help.
And there is something very important to understand: for them, Nano is not just a dog. Nano is companionship, comfort, routine, and connection. In many ways, he is what still keeps them going.
After taking him to the hospital and having him thoroughly examined, we now know that this is not a minor problem. Nano has a splenic mass that has grown, and he also has liver changes that need to be properly investigated. He needs surgery, biopsies, and follow-up care. This is not a case where we can wait and see. We need to act.
And even in the middle of all this seriousness, there is something very important: we are still in time. Nano is not arriving as a lost cause. He is arriving at that difficult point where it is still worth fighting for him.
But right now, this small family can no longer face alone either the cost or the complexity of what comes next: hospital care, anesthesia, surgery, biopsies, medication, and post-operative follow-up.
