    Help us care for Kiko
Kiko being held, wearing his blue eye patch after surgery

Kiko has had his operation and is back at the Big House.

In the end, we had to remove his eye. It was already badly damaged by leishmaniasis, and the scratch had torn the cornea, causing fluid to leak from inside the eye. It couldn’t be saved. The surgery and anaesthesia went well, and now we need to look after him while he heals.

Losing an eye sounds dramatic, but for Kiko the change is smaller than you might think. He could barely see through that eye; he could make out some light, but very little else. The big difference is that he no longer has that pain.

Maribel and Amparo welcomed him with lots of kisses, and he’s already walking around the house and looking for cuddles. And he looks so handsome with his pirate patch. Look at him… after everything he’s been through, he’s still our Kiko.

Thank you to everyone who helped with his operation and has been thinking of him. We wanted you to see him back home, surrounded by love.

    Viktor
