Goodbye, Carla. We will miss you so much

    Remembering Carla

Carla was still playing with her red toy. We were beside her, trying to say goodbye.

Rescued in a village in Jaén, southern Spain, she spent years in a boarding kennel while the women who sponsored her care searched for a family. When she was finally adopted, that adoption lasted just one night. Then they asked us for help, and she came to Casa Grande.

For a year and a half, we shared our lives with a loving, patient dog who was gentle with everyone. We would have loved to see her adopted. She stayed with us, and we loved her dearly.

A few months ago, she suffered a minor stroke that left her with a head tilt and balance problems, although she managed well. This summer, she began limping and was in severe pain. A CT scan revealed serious damage to her hip, possibly caused by a tumour.

Medication helped her come home brighter. But then she began struggling to breathe. At the hospital, the vet explained that the X-rays showed masses consistent with metastases. We had to let her go so she would no longer suffer.

We said goodbye in the garden, with her toy and our gentle touch. We stayed with her until the very end.

In this video, we share her story and our goodbye. I want to remember her enjoying our company. I wish we could have had much more time with her.

Thank you to the women who supported her all those years, to everyone who cared for her, and to all of you who helped us be there for her.

Carla, we will miss you so much.

    Viktor
