Aida has had surgery. Now we are concerned about tetanus

Aida is out of surgery. We had to amputate her leg, and the operation went well.

We know many of you hoped her leg could be saved. We wish that had been possible. But removing the maggots was not enough: several bones were broken, and much of the tissue was dead, with signs of gangrene. The damage was irreversible.

Our greatest concern now is tetanus. Aida has muscle rigidity and spasms, and she still needs hospital care. We have removed the damaged limb, but that does not immediately resolve this disease.

She is receiving a continuous intravenous infusion of medication to control the rigidity and spasms, along with antibiotics, pain relief and supportive care. The veterinary team is closely monitoring her condition. She may still get worse before she begins to recover.

The surgery went well, but Aida remains seriously ill. We want you to know where things stand: we have taken a necessary step, and now she needs time, treatment and close attention to help her overcome tetanus.

Thank you for keeping her in your thoughts. If you can contribute towards her hospital care and treatment, your donation will help us continue caring for her in the days ahead.
