Yesterday I introduced you to Snowflake, a little cat who should be playing outside or living in a warm home, but instead is in the hospital fighting for his life.
He was run over by a car or truck. His head crushed, his palate split in two. Left on the street to die.
Rescued by Anna in the south, he was taken to a local vet. The treatment failed. Infection spread. His suffering grew worse. Two of our friends, Felix and María — the same family who adopted Olaf, the cat who survived being burned — traveled to Granada, collected him, and brought him to us.
Now Snowflake is with us. And we are fighting for him.
He arrived dehydrated, anaemic, just skin and bones. Too weak to eat, he was given a feeding tube through his nose.
Today we are changing his IV, flushing the line, and monitoring his bloodwork. He remains anaemic but stable. His hair falls out at the slightest touch. He tested positive for ringworm, so he must be handled with extreme care and hygiene.
The plan is to place an oesophagostomy tube through his neck, which will allow us to give him thicker, more nutritious food. At the same time, we will attempt to close the opening in his palate so he can begin to eat on his own.
We are already consulting with one of the best facial surgeons in the world, Jorge Llinás, to give Snowflake the best chance.
Snowflake cannot do this alone. Neither can we.
