She Was Bathing Him When Her Fingers Found the Pellets

Tomorrow, Rufus goes into surgery. Today, a simple bath revealed what he has been carrying beneath his skin.

Today, Rufus received what may have been the first proper bath of his life.

As Carolina carefully washed him and ran her hands over his body, her fingers began finding the shotgun pellets beneath his skin.

“They are everywhere.”

Carolina has worked with many dogs, but she had never seen anything like this. When she understood what Rufus had endured, she could not hold back her tears.

His X-rays revealed more than 100 pellets embedded throughout his body. One of the shots destroyed his elbow, leaving him in pain whenever he places weight on that leg.

Tomorrow, Rufus will undergo surgery to stabilize the damaged joint and stop its painful movement.

For now, he is clean, safe and resting at Casa Grande. Despite everything that has been done to him, he remains gentle, affectionate and completely trusting.
