Wendy was found in the fields.
She was lying there, abandoned, in a terrible condition. Someone called the municipal animal collection service, and they took her to the pound.
That is where we found her.
She is only about four years old, but she looks as if life has been beating her down for years. Her skin is destroyed. Her face is raw. Her eyes are inflamed. She arrived covered in parasites, weak, anemic and exhausted.
Today we took her out.
We brought her straight to the hospital, because Wendy needs much more than food and a safe place to sleep. She needs answers.
The first tests already show leishmaniasis, anemia and a serious inflammatory process. Now we have to find out how much damage this disease has done inside her body. We need to check her kidneys, study her blood, treat her skin, protect her eyes and start the treatment that can give her a chance.
This is the beginning of Wendy’s rescue.
Getting her out of the pound was only the first step. Now come the tests, the medication, the baths, the hospital care and the long treatment ahead.
Wendy has been abandoned once already.
We are not going to abandon her now.
