Begoña has spent years helping cats.
She has cared for them, protected them, fed them, taken responsibility for them. Like so many people in rescue, her life has been built around animals who depend on her.
Then, suddenly, everything changed.
Begoña became seriously ill and spent 12 days in the ICU. From one day to the next, the animals she had always cared for needed someone else to step in.
When we heard what had happened, we went to her home.
At first, the plan was to bring five cats to safety. In the end, three were able to come with us: Oro, Tabalet and Aleph. Another cat could not be caught, and Rocky will stay with Begoña’s family for now.
This was not a case of abandonment. This was something different, and in many ways, something even more difficult to face.
It was the question every rescuer, every foster, every person with animals should ask before it is too late:
What happens to them if one day we cannot be there?
Begoña had done everything she could for her cats. But illness does not ask permission. Life changes in a second, and when it does, animals need a real plan, not just good intentions.
Oro, Tabalet and Aleph are safe with us now. We will care for them, observe them, confirm their medical needs and give them the stability they need. We will also keep Begoña updated, because for her, knowing they are safe matters deeply.
This rescue is about three cats.
But it is also about something bigger.
It is about responsibility. About community. About what rescue really means when the person who has always been helping suddenly becomes the one who needs help.
