Canela was rescued in Greece with a traumatic past and a body that had suffered terribly. She survived an attack by multiple dogs, and the injuries were so severe that one of her legs had to be amputated. As if that were not enough, she also had to fight her way back from leishmaniasis, recovering in extremis when the odds were against her.
But Canela did recover. And in doing so, she became one of the great symbols of Let's Adopt. She represents the fight for life in its purest form: the animal who has every reason to give up and somehow does not.
Canela has been with us for nine years. She is extraordinary. Strong, dignified, resilient and deeply loved, she carries her history without being reduced to it. Her missing leg is not the most important thing about her. Her illness is not the most important thing about her. What matters is the life she built after all of it.
Sponsoring Canela means helping us continue the long-term care of a dog who has already fought through more than most could imagine. She needs food, medical monitoring, support for her senior years, attention to her leishmaniasis history, comfort, stability and the daily care that allows her to keep living well.
Canela's story is not just about survival. It is about what happens after survival, when a rescued animal is given years of safety, love and dignity. By sponsoring Canela, you help protect one of the living symbols of Let's Adopt.
