Our beautiful Winston is leaving us. You all remember how he was the day he was rescued. He arrived at our place from a situation of abuse, with a completely fractured jaw. He couldn’t eat, couldn’t drink, he was in a lot of pain, and he was so uncomfortable. But under all that pain, you all could see this beautiful face full of hope and resilience.
He went into surgery; we fixed that jaw. He started eating again, and from that moment on, we focused on providing him with a beautiful puppyhood or childhood, whichever you want to call it. He lived with us at the great house, made so many friends, and he grew so much. He became a perfect specimen of his breed. Podencos are amazing dogs; people had used them for hunting, but they didn’t know, you know? Instead of focusing on making him chase rabbits, they have the most incredible dog. He’s an athlete, he’s funny, he’s a lovely companion. He was destined for so much more.
Winston was adopted and traveled to Switzerland, but about a week later, he had to be returned because the family had a very serious health issue. And he’s been with us ever since. But during this time, we have been focusing on finding a home for him, and we found that beautiful place, that beautiful family. Winston is going to join an amazing family in Manchester, in the UK. Gone are the memories of pain, of hospitals, of visits to the traumatologist to see how everything was going with the jaw. All that suffering is left behind. Now there’s only hope.
Winston is about to embark on a journey to Manchester. There was a time when the UK was part of Europe, when that journey was much easier. Now there is this bureaucracy, and he has to go by road, it’s not as easy anymore. But he’s going to make it there. My brother Jairo is going to go with him, so you will see the kind of place he’s going to live, you will see his new family, you will see his new siblings, and you will see why we chose that family for him.
