“Degloving” refers to a type of injury where an extensive portion of skin is completely torn off from the underlying tissue, severing its blood supply. It is called “degloving” because the skin is removed much like a glove might be pulled off a hand. When a cat’s tail is “degloved,” it means that the skin and fur of the tail have been stripped away, often exposing the underlying bone and tissue. This type of injury can occur from various traumatic incidents, including getting the tail caught or crushed in a door, getting hit by a car, falling from a height, or even due to attacks by other animals. In severe cases, the tail may need to be amputated to prevent further complications such as infection.
