It’s been just over a week since we rescued Chico, and what a tumultuous week it’s been. When this gentle soul first came to us, he was in a perilous state. His anemia levels were dangerously low, his blood was almost like water, leading to severe dehydration, extreme weakness, and a precarious condition that put his life on the line. Inicial tests showed that he is affected by three parasite transmitted diseases: Leishmaniasis, Ehrlichiosis and Anaplasmosis.
After two critical blood transfusions and round-the-clock care from our devoted team, we are pleased to report that Chico is showing signs of improvement. Slowly but surely, he’s adjusting to his new environment. He’s started eating more with each passing day, and although he’s still timid, his true nature is beginning to shine through. Chico is an incredibly kind and submissive dog, the type that sadly often falls victim to abuse.
While we celebrate these small victories, Chico’s journey is far from over. His road to full recovery will be a long and costly one, requiring additional medical treatments, more diagnostic tests, and possibly further transfusions. Events like these illustrate just how many variables can impact a patient’s recovery. Medicine is not an exact science, and unexpected complications can arise at any moment.
We can’t do it without you. Your support means everything to us, but more importantly, to Chico. Every dollar you donate goes directly towards his medical expenses, his daily care, and his future. Please consider donating to help us provide Chico with the life he never knew he could have.
