Farewell Winston

Our beautiful Winston is leaving us. You all remember how he was the day he was rescued. He arrived at our place from a situation of abuse, with a completely fractured jaw. He couldn’t eat, couldn’t drink, he was in a lot of pain, and he was so uncomfortable. But under all that pain, you all could see this beautiful face full of hope and resilience.

He went into surgery; we fixed that jaw. He started eating again, and from that moment on, we focused on providing him with a beautiful puppyhood or childhood, whichever you want to call it. He lived with us at the great house, made so many friends, and he grew so much. He became a perfect specimen of his breed. Podencos are amazing dogs; people had used them for hunting, but they didn’t know, you know? Instead of focusing on making him chase rabbits, they have the most incredible dog. He’s an athlete, he’s funny, he’s a lovely companion. He was destined for so much more.

Winston was adopted and traveled to Switzerland, but about a week later, he had to be returned because the family had a very serious health issue. And he’s been with us ever since. But during this time, we have been focusing on finding a home for him, and we found that beautiful place, that beautiful family. Winston is going to join an amazing family in Manchester, in the UK. Gone are the memories of pain, of hospitals, of visits to the traumatologist to see how everything was going with the jaw. All that suffering is left behind. Now there’s only hope.

Winston is about to embark on a journey to Manchester. There was a time when the UK was part of Europe, when that journey was much easier. Now there is this bureaucracy, and he has to go by road, it’s not as easy anymore. But he’s going to make it there. My brother Jairo is going to go with him, so you will see the kind of place he’s going to live, you will see his new family, you will see his new siblings, and you will see why we chose that family for him.

Now, I need you to trust me one more time. I believe we’ve made the perfect choice for him. You will understand why when he gets there. This is why today, I need to ask for your help for Winston, one last time. Please, if you can, donate. Help us get Winston to Manchester. It’s not an easy journey; it’s complicated, and my brother has to be with him. I want him to show you the kind of life he’s going to have.

One last time, please donate. Help us give a new life to Winston.

Thank you.

I hope and pray all his and your dreams come true for him. After reading about Chico and Lucky yesterday my heart is heavy with sorrow but Winston brings a smile I have lost these last few days. I have a lot of sadness in my own life and feel like I lost 2 and more of my own dogs. I have one left of 3 who came to France with me in 2013. If Herbie (my JRT dog) was amiable towards other dogs I would have adopted Winston myself. I think Podencos are the sweetest funniest dogs and I adore them.

Winston, be a good boy, have a good life, be happy, live well and be loved as far as the depths of the great ocean. You deserve so much. I love you ~ now go, and find your ‘puppyhood’ and be the dog you were always meant to be. Beautiful boy. Much love Zara and Herbie ……… blessings baby boy. xxx

I sent you a donation for Winston in memory of Lucky and Chico and all those you have tried to help and lost. But mostly in memory of all my own rescue dogs who shared their lives with me over the years since 1976 when we adopted our very first rescue dog. ALL running free now, young and whole once more. Never forgotten, not one …….. forever loved and with gratitude for their unconditional love they shared ~ 7 of our own and 2 more from my parents.

May the colours of their love shine through the stars and guide us on our journey ~ to the path that will lead us Home to them all one day.
🌈🐾💞💫 Until we meet again one day ……………… xXx
