Everybody knew about Patrick. For months, the people of that small village in Andalusia had watched the lean, terrified greyhound, wander around looking for food.
At first he was carrying a long rope, the kind of rope used by hunters to tie their dogs to walls when they are not being used, or worst, to hang them off from trees at the end of the hunting season. Slowly he managed to cut the rope with his teeth, until he could cut no more.
His owner, no doubt a heartless hunter, must have placed that rope around Patrick´s neck when he was a puppy… as he grew, the rope cut his neck and embed itself into the flesh, cutting through the muscle and nearly severing the trachea.
We drove for a full day to transport Patrick from Sevilla to our Hospital in Valencia in order to treat him from his injuries…
PLEASE WATCH PATRICK´S RESCUE VIDEO…
This morning we performed a battery of tests on Patrick. Due to his ordeal and the constant loss of blood Patrick is anaemic. He is also positive to a host of parasitic diseases, Ehrlichiosis, Anaplasmosis, common on dogs that have been forced to survive on the streets.
The worst however is the DEEP CUT ON HIS NECK. The rope cut through fat and muscle, reaching the bone on the upper part of his neck as well as the trachea on his lower part. It´s hard to imagine the constant pain Patrick must have been in.
The plan is to stabilise him, to control the infection on the area and to go into surgery. An injury like this one can be a source of serious complications if not treated surgically..
P.S. After he is completely recovered, PATRICK is going to need an amazing home, a home where he will be able to have a wonderful, extraordinary life. Please write to me on firstname.lastname@example.org including pictures of your current animals if you believe you are that family.
