Every few years, following the dictates of fashion, a dog breed becomes trendy, people start buying puppies and breeding puppies themselves. Their neighbours have one so they want one themselves.
This is what happened to Fiona´s breed. Fiona is a French Bulldog.
Fiona was found wandering the streets of Sevilla, in Andalousia, Spain, one of the hottest cities in the world, a city right now, is melting at 45C, 112 F… Fiona was found laying under a car, gasping, with her tongue completely out, unable to breath. When our volunteer rescued her she was about to pass out, she was rushed to the hospital where she spent close to a week recovering from her ordeal. Fiona was not only struggling to breath, she was also severely malnourished, was suffering from an acute ear infection and, a couple of days later we found out she is completely deaf.
The good and kindhearted Fiona had gone from being a fashionable accessory to become a noisy, disturbing nuisance to their owners who, simply, threw her away like a pile of trash.
Fiona is affected by Brachycefalic Syndrome, the elongation of the palate obstructing the flow of air … a condition that mostly affects her breed, bulldogs and pugs, and that not only limits her quality of life but that also presents a clear danger to her very existance. Right now, if too hot, tired or simply, excited, she could simply die asphyxiated.
For the last month Fiona has been living in a foster home, with her rescuer, recovering from her ordeal, but even if she is making great progress her quality of life is extremely poor and her life is at risk.
PLEASE WATCH HER VIDEO AND LISTEN TO HER EFFORTS TO BREATH…
This morning Fiona travelled for 8 hours to arrive to our hospital and be operated as soon as possible. It was the first time I met her, and let me tell you, she is an absolutely LOVE.
During today and tomorrow we will be working in improving her general condition pre-surgery, and we are aiming to conduct her surgery on Wednesday. If everything goes well this is going to change Fiona´s life drastically, and forever.
Fiona is a pure breed dog, she is also an extremely unlucky and sick baby that urgently needs our help.
Update 15 July…
Fiona had her surgery.. what an amazing recovery!!!
